The Gold Museum of Banco de la República informs its users about the closure of the room La Ofrenda due to renovations. Among other pieces, the emblematic Balsa Muisca is exhibited in this room.
Located on the third floor of the museum, this room will close during the third quarter of 2024 with the purpose of renewing the exhibition and updating the approach and its narratives.
Please note:
- The room will be closed from October 07 until mid-December 2024. The rest of the museum’s facilities will remain open to the public, offering their services normally.
- While the museographic renovations take place, the Balsa Muisca will be exhibited in the Cosmology and Symbolism room, so that visitors may continue enjoying this wonderful work of art and historical legacy of the indigenous Colombia.
The Offering, which is part of the permanent exhibition of the Gold Museum in Bogotá, is one of the most loved and visited rooms thanks to the interactive experience it provides. Located on the third floor of the museum, this room brings together several objects of pre-Hispanic goldsmithing that explain the work of the spiritual leaders and tell of the shamanic flight, that important moment of connection with the gods that is fundamental for indigenous societies.
In 2024, with the renovation of the room, new narratives will be introduced based on the most recent research on the Muisca culture and its ceremonial practices together with the Balsa Muisca, which will be exhibited for the first time with the set of objects with which it was found in 1969 by peasants from the municipality of Pasca in Cundinamarca.
The renovation will also include architectural renovation, curatorial and museographic updating, and the implementation of new technologies to optimize the visitors’ experience.
During the closing, the rest of the Gold Museum facilities will remain open to the public, offering an enriching experience through permanent and temporary exhibitions and daily cultural activities.
Once the renovation works are completed, the public will be able to rediscover this national heritage and relive the exciting experience of admiring the artistic and technical skills of the ancient goldsmiths through these objects while reflecting on the symbolic and cultural meaning of these unique pieces.
