The Banco de la República Cultural Center in Riohacha, located in the city center, is a space for knowledge, research, and encounters among the community of La Guajira. The aim is to promote constant reflection on Wayuu oral traditions, emphasizing the compilation of cultural expressions typical of this community, such as stories, tales, myths, and legends.

The population of Riohacha can enjoy art and archaeology exhibitions, the National Concert Season, and all the technical and research capacity that characterizes Banco de la República’s cultural network. The Cultural Center has fostered dialogues of knowledge and encounters around reading, music, heritage, and visual arts in the Riohacha community.

History

On July 1, 1965, Riohacha became one of the three cities in the Caribbean Region to have a Banco de la República, along with Barranquilla and Montería. Since its creation in 1981, the Cultural Center in Riohacha has focused its programming on strengthening and disseminating cultural processes and building a sense of citizenship in the department of La Guajira.

On January 23, 2017, the Banco de la República Cultural Center in Riohacha began to offer services in new offices on Calle 15 # 19-78, with ample spaces for various cultural activities including regular library services.
